Frequently asked questions
Spray Foam Roofing
How long has Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) been around?
It was developed during World War II for flotation.
Is it expensive?
No. It is competitively priced with other commercial roofing systems. Additionally, heating and cooling costs can drop an average of 40% for even further savings.
Does it absorb water like a sponge?
No. Properly applied SPF is a completely closed cell material that does not absorb water.
Can you walk on it?
Yes. SPF used for roofing has a compression strength of approximately 45 pounds per square inch.
Is SPF a good insulator?
One of the best! It has an R-Value of approximately R-6.5 per inch.
Will it stick to my roof or walls?
SPF will adhere to almost all clean and dry surfaces.
How long will it last?
With regular maintenance, SPF has been shown to last up to 35 years with no signs of internal degradation.
Can foam withstand extreme weather conditions?
Building with SPF coated roofs and/or walls have survived storms better than those built with conventional building materials. The is due to the "structural" material giving strength and flexibility to the surfaces it's applied on.
What is the service temperature range?
SPF operates in a wide range of climates; from extremely cold (-100 farenheit) to extremely hot (+225 farenheit).
Can I buy the material and apply it myself?
No. Correctly spraying SPF requires special application equipment and highly certified technicians.
Does my existing roof need to be removed?
In most cases, SPF roofing systems can be installed over your existing roof. This process can return additional savings against traditional methods by removing the costly tear-off and disposal expense.
Silicone Roof Coating
What is the least expensive way to restore my commercial flat roof?
The most cost-effective way to restore a roof is to install a commercial roof coating restoration (RCR) system. During this process - all damage is repaired, leaks are sealed and an energy efficieny silicone coating is applied. This negates the need for the tear-off of your old roof, saving thousands of dollars on labor and disposal costs.
Are silicone coatings better than acylic coatings?
We think so! Acrylic roof coatings are water-based products that have a very short life cycle. They are prone to chalking and hazin which causes acrylic adhesion to degrade rapidly over time.
Is silicone a "green" alternative?
The greenest! Here's why:
What needs to be done to prepare for an RCR system?
Sit back and relax - we do it all!
Are there limitations of when to install an RCR system?
We can install an RCR system throughout the year. However, any type of roof coatings should not be installed while there is any ice, frost or surface moisture on the roof.
Why is silicone coating more expensive than other coatings?
The initial material cost may be higher than other coatings, but your installation cost is much lower. In addition, long-term savings are achieved with lower maintenance costs and a roof system that has a significantly longer life span.
Where did silicone come from?
1938 - The "Silicone Project" began in the research lab at the General Electric company.
Are silicone solutions solvent free?
Yes. Additionally, it is a high solid, moisture cured, single component silicone with lower VOC's, higher solids and has the ability to coat other substrates with a single coat.
Why should I coat my roof?
Most roofs are made up of a combination of elements. Over time, those elements tend to deteriorate back to the base component. Exposure to water, heat and salts only expedite this process.
